Advancing key technologies to support high-efficiency IBC solar cell production in Europe by Kalyon PV
IBC4EU Partner Insights
As part of the IBC4EU project, our team is advancing key technologies to support high-efficiency IBC solar cell production in Europe, focusing on innovations in wafer and ingot production, mass production scalability, and reliable module testing.
We are developing methods for using thinner wafers, reducing material costs and enhancing efficiency, while maintaining structural integrity for long-term reliability. Additionally, we are assessing POLO IBC cell designs for scalable mass production, aiming to reach a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 7, where processes can transition to industrial scale.
Gallium-doped ingot production is another core aspect of our work, with a focus on achieving various resistance levels to meet diverse application needs, while minimizing light-induced degradation. In parallel, we are conducting outdoor module tests to validate real-world performance and durability, ensuring modules meet the high standards required for European deployment.
To enhance operational reliability, we are also developing predictive maintenance strategies to anticipate and address issues before they impact production, maximizing uptime and efficiency. These innovations will provide a strong foundation for European solar cell manufacturing, aligning with the IBC4EU project’s goals of advancing photovoltaic technology and production capacity within the EU.
